Garrett Morgan is not a love doctor but he easily could be. Garrett Morgan is a rising singer/songwriter out of Northern California. Originally from the lonestar state just outside of the San Antonio city limit sign. Garrett has a unique way of classifying his music by simply calling his sound a "Texa-fornia" fusion. While I am not sure which state influences him more I can vouch like many other Garrett Morgan fans that we really do not mind as long as he keeps cranking out hits.
One such hit is his single "Sugar". Morgan says this track is a classy way of telling a woman she is sexy and brings forth the beauty of such an intimate moment between two lovers. This track happens to be one of my favorites of Morgan's for his inherit raspy voice...which I found out was a vocal trick he performs because he doesn't really like his voice. I say stick with it. It is perfect to me.
Morgan mentioned in an interview with him that he doesn't see music as a "career" but rather a passion. From an early age he dreamed of making it "big" and he says the journey makes him fall in love more and more with creating and performing great music. Morgan doesn't want to be classified in a box. He says "great music is purely great." Him and his band have a rule...to produce the best no matter what. Whether one track sound a little pop or a little more traditional country they are cranking out hits they believe in, much like a chef pours their heart and soul into their food. Although, if one is curious who Garrett views his musical style most common with he says that his band is basically the love child of Dierks Bentley and John Mayer.
As a singer and a songwriter it is important to balance both talents. Morgan says he keeps a notebook of one liners or phrases that he likes to either use when he is writing alone or co-writing. He also finds solace and inspiration for his songs by reading poetry. He believes some of the best songs have popped to him by way of melody and then soared into a great track. If he could collaborate with anyone he would choose many different artist one being Taylor Swift. He thinks that people do not give her enough create for her ability. On his album there is a track called "Standing on a Bridge"which he wrote with John Mayer in mind and would love to do something with the guitar slinging Brad Paisley as well.
When tryin' to figure out which artist he likes to do covers of he told me in a nice way that its a secret since on his upcoming album he is actually doing a cover by his favorite female singer and he assured me it wasn't a Taylor Swift track. So, I suppose the mystery is as good as unsolved to all of us until the new album comes out.
With the buzz of artist and athlete's flocking to social media outlets Morgan cannot praise the wildfire that has occurred in his life due to joining twitter. He says he has fans all over the world and that it's a great way of meeting amazing people that you may not get to see everyday or otherwise connect with. I say this is true, Garrett followed me on Twitter and my chain reaction was to follow him back. After I did so I realized his amazing talent and we ended up connecting so well he allowed me to write this blog.
Besides music he loves to travel. He frequents Mexico quite a bit on his travels. He loves sports and especially loves to golf. He is a reader which warms my writer heart. Plus, he loves meeting new people. If you ever had a doubt that Garrett was a great guy he once gave a friend a Kidney and wants to be open and honest with his fans about how much photoshop is done on his pictures, he explained that "I'm 5 ft 2, 140 lbs, heavily balding and out of shape." Never believe some of the stuff Morgan says however he is a huge jokester and loves to play pranks from time to time. If Garrett is in control of the TV then he is most likely feeding his addiction to the show Psych. He believes detective Juliet O'Hara is the die-cut of a perfect woman.

Be Daring, Be Bold, Be You
I was reminded days ago that my battle plan to life had worn out and served it purpose. I could no longer read the coordinates and was dwelling on missed missions. The past few days I have tried to redefine the perfect missions, the perfect comrades, and the plan that will win the war.
What I've discovered in the battle field of life is to: be daring, be bold, but always be YOU. I know you all are sayin' that is fundamental. We all know to be ourselves, to take risk, and to dare cross another path or chase another dream. Believe me, I knew that fact as well. However, when the stresses, the demons, and life drags you down you can lose your grip or rather your sense of urgency in winning the war.
When I was brought onto this Earth...I couldn't have fathomed the paths and trials I would have to face. As those became exposed to me I slowly equipped myself with the essential toolbox. I mean at the time I thought the lessons were pretty essential. However, like we as individuals are always evolving...so is our essential toolbox.
Of course, not all the contents are changed and sometimes we are lucky enough to inherit a bigger tool box to store more of these infinite wisdom's in. Though each individuals tool box is composed of different tools...this simple phrase can find its way inscribed if not on the tool box itself but in your heart.
I challenge you to adapt or review your battle plan. As a part of my newly drafted plan I am going to genuinely smile more and worry less. I am going to love wholeheartedly and give without the intent of receiving anything in return. So, are you ready to Be Daring, Be Bold, but most importantly Be YOU?

The Journey to cowboyhood
When we're little we all aspire to be something. Some of us want to be famous while others hope just to find the secret to happiness. For some men , however, they journey on from being a man to becoming a cowboy. Devon Dutton a bull rider from Clarksville, Arkansas is on this journey. Being a bull rider to him isn't just a way of showing off his strength or his inner craziness, it is his life.
Dutton always wanted to ride bulls, but like many young men his mother wasn't quite fond on the idea. Devon told me that at 16 he finally went to a buck out pin and mounted a bull for the very first time. While most teens are test driving pick ups or cars, Dutton was test drivin' a beast, one with horns and hooves. Although, being naturally talented Devon stayed on for the first eight seconds. It went all downhill from there and it's when Dutton notched his name permanently on any entry form he could get his hand on.
Being a bull rider is tough. Not only is there a physical toll which makes this 21 year old feel much older and constantly sends the line from the Garth brooks song "Much to young to feel this damn old" through his head but there is an emotional toll. Dutton mentions that bull riders must find their own way to escape the fear of it. He gave me the example about being the next guy out of the chute, and the rider out before you gets knocked out. "You have to block it out of your head, if you don't you will fall off. You have to find your brand of cockiness/confidence."
One thing that Dutton does best is never shy away from a battle. He hold a card to many rodeo organizations and plans on getting his PRCA permit. He has had a delay at getting his permit to the elite Pro Rodeo association due to injury. However, his fighter mentality makes him want to always compete against the best and beat them. If he could face one bovine opponent of his dreams it would be the late great Little Yellow Jacket.
Besides, being crazy enough to ride bulls, Dutton loves to be outdoors and if not riding bulls he prefers to be on the water, hunting or watching his beloved Arkansas Razorbacks or cursing the backroads to clear his head. If he hadn't found a career in bull riding he would probably be a hunting guide and dreams of one day opening a hunting ranch on the side ( I think that is really Kick Butt).
Devon says his biggest fan is his mama although he always hates when she has nervous breakdowns watching him ride. He wants to redefine the bull riding community by stripping away the "player" mentality from people minds and showing them that even good ol' boys find enjoyment in the bucking chute. Besides his family, Jesus is number one in his life.
Dutton would say he is his own worst critic and that people often tell him he is to pretty to be a bull rider. Ladies, if you look at him his adorable, breathe taking smile will definitely rope you in. He is living his dreams and hopes to etch his name into the record books. He will not call himself a cowboy for he feels like those are big boots to fill and he just isn't there yet.

A passions birth
Do you ever think back and wonder what set the course to something you are passionate about? Was it something you adopted with a close friend, or discovered it on a whim. Prehaps it was engrained into you by an adult or idol.
I think back to writing. It is funny that it is one of my passions. As you read my blogs you probably find countless grammar mistakes, incomplete thoughts or fragments and sometimes non-sense type tangents. I never have had the greatest track record with the english language even though It's my first language. Although, I found some sort of comfort in a written phrase over a spoken one. I know that most phrases now get dictated down but in the silence of my room I often find a quote or series of words that compel me.
I guess I shouldn't forget words that are sung. I sometimes think as I've grown up that I can picture stories better in some of my favorite old country songs.
Back to the point: I did tell you about the tangent thing remember. After struggling with reading in my formative elementary years, I found some solace in stories. They took me places I couldn't imagine .Julie Andrew Edwards took me on an adventure to find The Last of The Really Great Whangdoodles but Nancy Drew took me on the right trail to solve the mystery. Debra Seely introduced me to the plains and cowboys in The Last of the Roundup Boys, but F. Scott Fitzgerald landed me smack dab into high class society in The Great Gatsby. I got lost on the high sea with Pi Patel in the book Life of Pi and discovered a little more about the Wicked Witch of the West in Gregory Maguires Wicked. Although, I always remember to continue to Chase the Dream thanks to Constance Colson.
We all have stories, songs, and letters that take us to some destination. A memory or a thought I suppose. With countless books on different subjects and even the same one might wonder why a young woman would want to write. After watching Becoming Jane, I think I fell more in love with my talents of creating vivid and tangible images with words. Maybe the surgance in my love for the talent came with the ease of concealing hurt or insecurites behind characters. Ones who I promise you always find a way to overcome adversity even if it breaks them apart.
I guess maybe our passions are partly born from deep desires or needs in our lives...but what I do know is...whatever your passionate about, go after it. Get involved with it and maybe you'll find a link in your life that was missing.

Maybe I'm...
Maybe, I'm still like a child sitting in a shopping cart. Watching the world through jaded eyes only triggered by objects that catch my attention. Perhaps, I'm a bit like Picasso. Starving to show the world my vision. An inability to have people see the true genius of my work.
However, could I possible look at the world through a history cinematographer's lens. Waiting with uncanny patients to capture the image, the movement, that will be associated with some glorifying or horrifying historical event.
If music be my escape let it be that my soul is intertwined with Hendrix and The Beatles. Searching for the one liner, the anthem, the melody to defy a generation.
If poems be my muse conceivably the internal torture of Poe be my motivation factor, or for literary immortality as it may be I should find my inner F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Except even if these greats have a manifestation inside of me, I'm yet a naive twenty three year old. Whose mere life seems to revolve around an intense want of leaving an extravagant yet mystifying tall tale behind me.
I could not dare to leave this world and enter the stratosphere being called boring, plain, or unadventurous. I want them to say my laughter held it's own special tune. My smile glistened brighter than any prized gem.
I want people to hold their heads high and chase their dreams to the moon. I want to create a legacy such as the American Cowboys. I want to be remembers as a person who fell more than she stood, but fearlessly took the next step anyways. I want to inspire before I transpire. So, I will fight like Ali to leave an indescribable, altering, purely passion and fire of a story behind me. For I only live once and this may be the next great story read by all.

What A party?
So, as y'all can decode from my Sunday music blogs I am a huge...make that MEGA country music fan...and I am not talking Taylor Swift Country. I was raised with bands who had the fiddle and steel whining...a haunting sensation in most done me wrong songs. Friday I was lucky to go celebrate my favorite Radio Stations birthday with them. It featured some new artist I have come to love...One was Jason Cassidy.
Let me get into Jason Cassidy. I first heard his what if song on the radio and thanks to good old Spotify I learned to devour all of his songs. My cousin had mentioned seeing Cassidy and his band on the morning news but I unfortunately missed the performance. I didn't however miss one of the best shows. Cassidy voice is pure and so country. Coming out of Texas you know I have to tip my hat to him. As I got lost in his melodic magic, I also couldn't help but feel my soul scream as his fiddle player got down. I truly believe that to have a country soul, you can not deny that you need a little fiddle-de-dee in your life. Cassidy is going to make it big, he is going to start the positive revolution to return country to it's rightful backwoods home. I got to touch Cassidy Hands twice and so Loved his hook em horns hat...I think that's cause y'all know I love Texas. I guarantee if you grew up in the age of Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, and all those other kick ass 90's artist you will want to check the cool cat Jason Cassidy out especially What if...it's not the same old sad love song * insert clever smile here*.
The second person to perform was this guy name Jon Pardi...I didn't know him at all..Shocker since i usually only listen to mainstream artist when I have the radio on. I loved his guitar strap but unfortunately I need to listen to him more to really get the musical overdose that I got from Cassidy and the others.
Okay, this paragraph is going to be long. The third performance was from the dynamic trio Eden's Edge. From the time I heard Amen, I feel in love with their playful lyrics and undeniable country sass. Even though Dean is in the trio, you definitely feel the playfulness from Hannah and Cherill. Cherill plays a mean mandolin...plus she has become one of my fashion icons along with Hannah. What I love about Hannah's voice is it is so authentic...not fabricated and that girl can belt out the notes. I love how Dean compliments the girls and he plays a mean guitar. Of course we all know their smash hit, but it is there song Swinging Door that has been an obsession for a few weeks now. It country/ Americana roots run thick, as the trio headed by Hannah's fiery sass tells a man who was once in one of the girls lives that his train doesn't need to pull into the depot anymore...Well the lyrics say stop, but same thing. My favorite line is "You have a girl in every cow town." I suppose this is because I am so sure that my ex was playing me as a jaded fool, but he can run off to those other girls. Although, one song that really got me was their song Cherry Pie. Hannah explained that Dean and some friends had this idea to write a song and called Hannah up to ask who inspired her, to Hannah growing up in Arkansas it was her Welsh Pony named Cherry Pie. However, the lyrics related to the same feelings and devotions that I had with my best friend. The song brought tears to my eyes. I also got to touch Hannah's hand and Cherill could tell I was groovin'. I absolutely as they played felt like my soul was dancin' on the stage and that is what country music is all about. If you haven't felt the dimensional depth of this trio...go on a ride, you will be surprised and smilin' after every trip/
The final performer was Josh Thompson, a lot of people know him as the beer on the table guy, and the Way out Here. I have to tell you, Josh is beyond that. He is an amazing performer, has an amazing smile, can play the guitar, and his songs man they send this sort of energy over you that you cant control. While sing Way out Here I swear Whiskey Tangos felt like some Southern Country Revival, as if as we all balled our hands in a Rosie the Riveter fashion that we were going to take the world down, if not alone but together. However, Josh has a huge influence in his music from outlaw country singers and I love the line in one of his songs and he sings " I blame it on Waylon." I also love his song about losing yourself to someone for the first time and the feeling you get, the line " We lost more than a diamond earring." signifies that coming of age bliss. Josh pumped up the crowd and had us all singin' every word. One thing I loved about Josh's band is it featured a steel guitar player. I have to admit, I am envious of Steel guitar players. From a young age when I would hear that high whine in one of the songs I was listening to I would feel my heart burst. His steel player was awesome and I enjoyed his banjo playin' also. However, Josh Thompson made me cry when he played his song called Sinner...Josh said he had been searchin' everywhere to find a song that was the epitome of him, and he found it in that song. The song recalls that we all feel a sin coming on but a Sinner is thankful that God will never quit on him or her. The song gives me chills when I listen to it because like Josh I know if there was a limited space in Heaven I would not be going there.
If you are looking for true country music...take a listen to some of these artist. If you want to go back in time, have a line morph into a memory take a ride down their lyrical roads and you are sure to find a few artist that you can't help but sing along to even when there music isn't on.

It country/ Americana roots run thick, as the trio headed by Hannah's fiery sass tells a man who was once in one of the girls lives that his train doesn't need to pull into the depot anymore...Well the lyrics say stop, but same thing. My favorite line is "You have a girl in every cow town." I suppose this is because I am so sure that my ex was playing me as a jaded fool, but he can run off to those other girls. Although, one song that really got me was their song Cherry Pie. Hannah explained that Dean and some friends had this idea to write a song and called Hannah up to ask who inspired her, to Hannah growing up in Arkansas it was her Welsh Pony named Cherry Pie. However, the lyrics related to the same feelings and devotions that I had with my best friend. The song brought tears to my eyes. I also got to touch Hannah's hand and Cherill could tell I was groovin'. I absolutely as they played felt like my soul was dancin' on the stage and that is what country music is all about. If you haven't felt the dimensional depth of this trio...go on a ride, you will be surprised and smilin' after every trip/
The final performer was Josh Thompson, a lot of people know him as the beer on the table guy, and the Way out Here. I have to tell you, Josh is beyond that. He is an amazing performer, has an amazing smile, can play the guitar, and his songs man they send this sort of energy over you that you cant control. While sing Way out Here I swear Whiskey Tangos felt like some Southern Country Revival, as if as we all balled our hands in a Rosie the Riveter fashion that we were going to take the world down, if not alone but together. However, Josh has a huge influence in his music from outlaw country singers and I love the line in one of his songs and he sings " I blame it on Waylon." I also love his song about losing yourself to someone for the first time and the feeling you get, the line " We lost more than a diamond earring." signifies that coming of age bliss. Josh pumped up the crowd and had us all singin' every word. One thing I loved about Josh's band is it featured a steel guitar player. I have to admit, I am envious of Steel guitar players. From a young age when I would hear that high whine in one of the songs I was listening to I would feel my heart burst. His steel player was awesome and I enjoyed his banjo playin' also. However, Josh Thompson made me cry when he played his song called Sinner...Josh said he had been searchin' everywhere to find a song that was the epitome of him, and he found it in that song. The song recalls that we all feel a sin coming on but a Sinner is thankful that God will never quit on him or her. The song gives me chills when I listen to it because like Josh I know if there was a limited space in Heaven I would not be going there.
If you are looking for true country music...take a listen to some of these artist. If you want to go back in time, have a line morph into a memory take a ride down their lyrical roads and you are sure to find a few artist that you can't help but sing along to even when there music isn't on.

Ode to the songwriter---> This is Jeff Scott Stevens Story
So, I decided to take a small detour but this detour is also highly important to the music. Some artist often need edged or assisted in the song writing process, for some Jeff Scott Stevens becomes that assistant. He has been getting acclaim for the vivid imagery his songs produce in his listener.
When I first discovered his song writing talent it came in the form of his song Daddy Don't Go. Stevens said that he envisioned the song being sung by either Martina McBride or Carrie Underwood. Stevens often envisions the vocalist as he progressively seeks the right combination of words and lyrical hooks. His song Daddy Don't Go came to Stevens from a familiar place: news stories. He had watched the news, read articles, and amerced himself in the stories of friends and family about young children missing there parents due to them fighting in the war. He took the stance in the song by looking on the outside in and wrote a heartfelt tune that stands ode to those individuals who must wait for their heroes to come home.
He then exposed his festive anthem Campfire song...a summertime anthem that despite its inability to be released the summer of 2011 it will definitely be an anthem for everyone in 2012. It is definitely a stark contrast to the seriousness of Daddy Don't Go but exhibits that Stevens has the ability to make you want to party or go grab a tissue.
Stevens says his start to exposing his music to social media started out slow on Myspace but once he found twitter the exponential growth of his singles being heard by fans. He enjoys Twitter a lot and is so grateful for the support that has come from the social media age of music. He also if you do not follow him would like you to know that you can find him as @jeffsstevens.
Other than writing music Jeff Scott Stevens enjoys playing with music software and technologies, he loves hanging out with friends and is a reality TV junkie. This probably helps describe his since of variations in who he dreams to collaborate with especially classic rock artist from the 60's-90s but his modern dream collaborations contain Reba, Blake, Lady Antebellum and so many more. He would be honored to submit his songs to anyone who could put the rich tone to his message.
Knowing that Stevens's songs often follow the storyteller ideology of country music, I asked him why he feels people listen to country music and he mentioned that "the vocalist and songwriters often collaborate what we as humans cannot or are to afraid to say, that and country music can be full of love songs, but also have the fun upbeat party songs."
I also asked if there were anything he wanted me to let you guys know and he wanted to tells his fans that they are extremely important to him and that he is grateful for all the support.
